We’re so excited to announce that our chicken coop is finally open! After months of planning, our feathered friends joined us in Week 2—and the whole school has felt the buzz of excitement.
But it’s not just about fun. The chicken area is a special space for learning, connection, and wellbeing. Students can observe, feed, or even hold a chicken (with a staff member). It also offers a quiet spot for kids who need a calm break with a trusted adult like our chaplain, counsellor Ali, or a teacher.
To make sure everyone can enjoy this space safely, we have emailed families a quick permission form. Students can only take part in chicken activities with guardian approval. Activities might include:
Watching the chickens (inside or outside the coop)
Feeding healthy treats
Holding a chicken with a staff member
Spending time nearby in the Year 6-run garden
Safety is a top priority, with:
Gated entry and adult supervision
Hand sanitiser use
Clean shoes before/after visiting
Lessons on how to safely interact with animals
Participation is always optional. Students who choose not to join in will stay with their class and take part from a nearby space.
Later this year, we hope to collect our first eggs! Our Year 6s will then launch a weekly Farmer’s Market selling eggs and garden produce—a great way to learn about sustainability and leadership.
